The challenge
The most important part of making the Bird in Hand a community asset is raising the cash to buy it and take it on as a business. Ideally, we need about £500,000 and we’re looking to raise this from all sources; shares, grants, donations and loans. It’s a lot, but more than 90 other pubs in the country have done it and we can do it too. Many of those were able to get grants to help them but to get a grant we have to demonstrate that we have done our bit in raising funds and that’s where you can help.
How you can help
There are a variety of ways you can help:
- Buy shares
The Share Issue was launched on 31 May. By buying shares you will give us a sum of money to use as capital to buy the pub and you become a member of the Bird in Hand Community Benefit Society which is running the project. You will have a say in how it is run. The minimum investment is £100 which represents 100 shares, but you can buy more than this. However many shares you buy you will have just one vote. More information on the share scheme is available on the Share Issue page.
- Donate
We welcome donations of any amount! There are collecting boxes in the village Shop and in the Bird itself. We have opened a Go Fund Me page and we are very grateful to the people who have donated through this route. Or get in touch through the Contact Us page on this website if you want to give us a cheque or make a bank transfer.
- Run a Fundraising Event
You’re keen on doing a Sponsored Run? Or holding a Quiz or a Jumble Sale? We’d be delighted to hear of your ideas. If you are prepared to organise something then let us know through the Contact Us page. We’ll publicise it on this website and through other means as well, if that fits in with the timing of your event.
- Take Part in our Events
Do come and join in our activities. Be part of the village team that wants the pub to be a success.
- Do you know someone who might help?
Persuade them join us and get in touch, or tell us who they are by sending a message on the Contact Us page.
- Big up The Bird!
Talk to friends, neighbours and families about the project.
Bring them to the pub for a drink or a meal.
Infect them with your enthusiasm!
Encourage them to pass on the good news that the people of Henstridge are serious about keeping our village pub alive and a focus for our community.
